Elegant Baby Shower Cake

We don’t often do baby shower cakes, but when a super sweet mother of a former brides asks SUPER nicely we just can’t refuse.    It also doesn’t hurt to let us make whatever we want and give us no budget at all; but we still kept it reasonable.  We made this three tier pale pink buttercream covered cake.  For the bottom tier we just molded some lace with a silicone mold and painted it with a pearl luster dust.

Wedding Cakes with Organic Lines

Rarely has one cake design been brought to us by so many brides! They have asked for a “lite” version, with less lines to the latest request that was to be very much like the original design. Let me say, I do not know what cake artist to give credit for the original design. It’s been pinned and refined so many times that I would need to be a forensic analyst to figure it out.

Blush and Gold Wedding Cake

We got to make a PINK wedding cake! Squeal! It was “blush” but we know that really means pink! I love a bride that does something different! We made this three tier cake with French buttercream which is all butter and “non crusting”. Once the cake is perfectly smooth, we chill it in the freezer for about an hour before we do the stenciling. If it gets too cold the cake will get condensation and that causes your stencil buttercream not to stick and that is bad.

Our last cupcakes….

We have grown and changed our business as time has gone by the past few years.  When we started Magnolia Bakery and their cupcakes were all the rage.  Then a bunch of cupcake stores opened in the  area and my once popular cupcake business slowed way down.  I was fine with that because it gave me more time to focus on learning my craft.  Now, 90% of those shops are closed but I’m still here and I don’t make cupcakes anymore!

Sanding Sugar Wedding Cake

Here is an idea!  When you aren’t great at smoothing buttercream or need a quick finish push some sanding sugar into your buttercream.  You can buy a big container (more than you will ever need) at Cake Deco.  Many people really like the crunch and texture this sugar provides.  It really is pretty in person and hard to capture in a picture.  It will drop sugar onto the tier below, so resign yourself to it or only cover the bottom tier or cover the whole thing!

Back to the Future Party Cake

When I was a kid, Back to the Future was one of my favorite movies.  When I met Chaddy later on in life, I found out it was one of his favorites too.  We were thrilled when we got to make a Delorean cake for our friends back in 2009.

The movie got a lot of press last week since October 21, 2015 was “the future” that Marty and Doc went back to way back in 1985.

Buttercream Flowers! Ranunculus and roses oh my!

We are proud to be part of the buttercream flower revolution!  We got to pull out some old school roses and some new school ranunculus flowers.  We had to watch some videos and many of the flowers are not very good, but they were tasty!

We also tried some watercolor buttercream techniques and finished everything off with some gold!  I’m happy with the way the cake out and people loved fighting over the delicious flowers!

Buttercream Rosette Ruffles

This cake is a fully buttercream iced and decorated except for the gumpaste flowers

Sometimes we get to try an established look but with a new twist.  Ruffles are mostly done with fondant but most customers want to avoid it.  We tried to accomplish the same look but with buttercream.  I’m really happy with the outcome and learned a lot on this one cake.  The sweet bride was willing to trust me without ever seeing what it would look like and I’m very grateful for her faith in my abilities.

Oscar Bat Mitzvah Party Cake

We love a good Bat Mitzvah!  We were lucky enough to make a Hollywood style cake for this great birthday event.  We decided to make a simple cake stand just to make the cake a little more festive.  We used a couple of  24″ covered cake drums.  We spray painted the area that were going to show with silver spray paint to cover some of the embossed print.  We would have recovered them but there isn’t a material that I know that is 26″
